    Extravagance or justified chopper rides?

    Two helicopters bearing a striking resemblance have been observed ferrying prominent Kajiado politicians to the remote area of Olkiramatian in Magadi ward within the past few weeks.

    The helicopters have been identified to be part of a fleet from a helicopter charter service that provides luxury air services at an average cost of 250 000 Kenya shillings per hour.

    One helicopter ferried the statehouse controller Katoo Ole Metito, who is also eyeing the coveted Kajiado county gubernatorial seat, and his political allies to a political event.

    Similarly, the other helicopter ferried Kajiado county governor Joseph Ole Lenku to a house warming party in the same area this week.

    The images of Lenku cutting a ribbon at the house warming party in Musenke village has caused backlash from a section of netizens who have expressed outrage over the flashy and extravagant lifestyle showcased by politicians at a time when many Kenyans are struggling to meet their basic needs.

    Musenke village which is located within Olkiramatian area in Kajiado county has 6 primary schools and 2 secondary schools. According to a teacher in the area, Olkiramatian is considered a hard to staff cluster because piped water, electricity and good roads are almost non existent.

    “Many teachers do not want to work in this area because of the many challenges especially water scarcity,” said the teacher who wished to remain anonymous.

    Olkiramatian residents depend on Nguruman area for food and other basic necessities or alternatively, Magadi or Kiserian towns which are kilometers away.

    Kenya’s intersex community commemorate this year’s Intersex Solidarity Day

    Kenya’s intersex community commemorated this year’s Intersex Solidarity Day with an awareness walk, symbolic tree planting and the launch of the “Triple N” Marathon at Talanta Social Hall in Ongata Rongai this Saturday.

    The event, organised by the Association of Intersex Parenthood (AIP–Kenya), brought together intersex persons, human rights advocates, youth groups, police officers and community leaders in a call for greater inclusion and protection of intersex Kenyans.

    The day began with the planting of 12 trees at the Ongata Rongai Police Station, a gesture tied to the 2019 national census in which 1,524 intersex persons were officially counted for the first time. Organisers noted that the number 12 symbolizes the digits of 1+5+2+4 which marks both progress and the ongoing journey toward recognition.

    According to AIP representatives, new estimates indicate that Kenya’s intersex population is significantly larger than previously recorded because officials conducting the census lacked adequate training to correctly identify intersex individuals during the census resulting in undercounting. Current community assessments place the number at close to 1.2 million Kenyans who identify as intersex.

    After the tree-planting, participants set off in procession through Ongata Rongai town before returning for the official launch of the Triple N Marathon, an upcoming sporting event aimed at amplifying conversations around intersex rights and visibility.

    Speakers from civil society, local administration and the intersex community urged continued public education to dispel myths and promote dignity for intersex children and adults.

    Following the death of a 60 year old man in Khwirale village, Nambale, Busia County, his son in law was tasked to perform  a very rare cultural rite unique to the local community.
    During the planning of the man’s funeral, it was confirmed that the son in law had not introduced himself as per the local community’s cultural norm.  The issue became more complicated because the son in law was already living with the man’s daughter as husband and wife.
    The funeral’s planning committee together with local community elders advised the son in law requested the son in law to bring specific items such as a blanket given to the in-laws during marriage introductions.  The son in law heeded the elders advise and brought the items just before the burial.   During the burial, the son in law had to cover the grave with the blanket he had brought as part of the rite.
    The rite ended with music and dance which forms part of marriage introductions.

    “We need a police station now” Residents Appeal to Sunkuiya and Kanja

    Lack of a police station in the vast Kajiado West has made it difficult for the police to patrol the vast sub county well according to Kibiko residents.
    Kajiado West sub county was divided into two administrative units in 2023, giving birth to Elang’ata Wuas Sub County.
    The first Deputy County Commissioner of Elang’ata Wuas Sub-County, Fred Masingila was installed by the then Interior CS and now Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on September 12, 2023.
    The establishment of Elang’ata Wuas Sub county left Kajiado West without a police station after Magadi Police Station, which was the only police station in Kajiado West was swallowed by Elang’ata Wuas sub-county.
    Kibiko residents have now appealed to Kajiado West MP George Sunkuiya and the Interim General of Police Douglas Kanja to do everything they can to elevate Kibiko police post to a police station.
    “Police station comes with vehicles, more police officers and other resources. It’s unacceptable to have a sub county without a police station in 2025. With the completion of the Ngong to Suswa road, it makes sense to have a well equiped and manned police station which includes traffic officers in Kibiko.” A resident said.
    Most of the crime investigations that occur in Kajiado West are investigated by either Ngong or Kiserian police stations, which are both within n Kajiado North sub county.
    Crime investigations and other police operations occuring within Kajiado West sub county should be conducted by officers based within the area of jurisdiction for accountability purposes.

    A 28 yr old genz, Lesiamon Likimani has been elected as the new board of directors chairperson, Kerarapon primary School.
     
    Lesiamon Likimani is the great-grandson of the Muthoni Likimani who was a well known writer.
    He graduated from JKUAT with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.
     
    “I been actively involved in community initiatives, such as serving as a board member of Kerarapon Water, participating in tree planting , and even taking the initiative of fixing drainage covers after an incident where a child fell into one and broke both of her. These experiences deepened my understanding of the needs of the community and the importance of service. I also believe it is time for the youth to step up into leadership. Often, young people are judged harshly, with perceptions that we are careless or disconnected. But we have the energy, creativity, and fresh perspective to drive meaningful change. Taking up this role is my way of showing that youth can lead responsibly and make a lasting impact” He said
     
    He further said “I am also proud to be Likimani the 5th—continuing a legacy of service, as the 1st Likimani, Paul Likimani, was actually the first Chairman of Kerarapon School and one of the founders too. For me, carrying this name is both a responsibility and a privilege, and I’m committed to uplifting it further by serving my community with integrity. Being elected as the Chairman of Kerarapon Primary School is more than just a role for me. It is an opportunity to give back, to inspire the youth, and to ensure our children learn in an environment that prepares them for a brighter future.”

    Tuala Resident Killed While Attempting to Save His Father in Suba

    Tuala community members in Kajiado East are mourning the death of one their neighbour, Professor Thomas Tony Onyango Mboya who was brutally murdered at his home in Kakrigu, Rusinga Island, Suba, following a land dispute yesterday morning.
    Prof. Tom Mboya who was a scholar and the Director of the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) was attacked with a ‘panga’.
    The deceased had travelled to his rural home to settle aland demarcation dispute.
    According to his friend, he was supposed to be accompanied by the area chief but arrived earlier in the company of his workers and father.
    “Suddenly the neighbors son descended on his father with a ‘panga’ and Tom tried to save his father but was hit twice on his head dying on the spot. His father survived the attack and currently at the hospital. The attackers who are on the run are known children of the other party involved in the dispute.
    Professor Mboya was was born in 1970, completed his O-Level education (KCE) at Kokuro Secondary School in 1987 and later pursued his Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) at Homa Bay High School in 1989. He then joined Egerton University for a Bachelor of Education (Science) degree, graduating in 1993.
    In 1994, he was employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). In 1997, he took study leave to pursue a Master of Science degree in Mathematics at the University of Nairobi, graduating in 1999.
    After completing his master,’s degree, he returned to teaching until 2002 when he joined the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) as a lecturer. He served there until 2005, after which he traveled to the United Kingdom to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Inverse and Ill-posed Problems at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2008.
    From 2009 to 2012, he returned to CUEA as a lecturer. In March 2012, he joined the Technical University of Kenya as a Senior Lecturer and Chair of the Department of Statistics and Computational Mathematics, a position he held until January 2013. Between February 2013 and January 2016, he served as the Head of the Department of Industrial and Engineering Mathematics.
    At the time of his death, Prof. Mboya was an Associate Professor and Director of the School of Mathematics and Statistics.

    The local government administration and the alternative justice system (AJS) that was setup to resolve land disputes have been urged to stop sharing a platform with Prayers beyond boundaries ministries (PBB) Televangelist Lucy wa Ngunjiri until a Ngong land dispute involving the PBB ministries is resolved.
    A section of Bondeni residents where the land claimed by PBB Ministries is located, raised their concerns after the televangelist was given prominent visibility during a recently held Peace event in Ngong town.
    “The administrators may be doing that in good faith, but Professionally and administratively, they shouldn’t do that. It looks bad on them. I hope they are not planning to give her a platform during Mashujaa day.” Mr Kimani who claims the disputed land is public said.

    The return of the former Kajiado North member of parliament Joseph Manje in the Kajiado North parliamentary race in 2027 may yield surprising results, according to political commentators.

    The former Kajiado North MP who is also the current Jubilee deputy party leader, has not declared which political seat he will be vying for but his close allies have revealed to Elveza Media that he will definitely be on the ballot.

    In 2022, Manje was the running mate to Dr. David Nkedianye who was vying for the Kajiado county governor’s position. The duo lost to Governor Joseph Ole Lenku and Martin Moshisho.

    Political commentator Josephat Kiniiya has predicted the return of Manje to Kajiado North politics may result in either George Yogo or Shadrack Wambui clinching the coveted Kajiado North parliamentary seat.

    “Manje’s supporters voted for Ngogoyo in the 2022 elections. If Manje decides to vie for the parliamentary seat in 2027, they will vote for him which will in turn significantly reduce Ngogoyo’s votes. Yogo has his ODM support base. Shadrack Wambui appeals to the Genz voters, professionals and most likely the land owners who have been following and supporting his petitions in court. Candidates like Kibathi and Captain Gichinga managed to garner a significant number of votes in 2022, but their silence has left a gap which is currently being exploited by Shadrack Wambui. If Manje decides to endorse any of the above candidates and go for a higher political seat, Ngogoyo will be in trouble. We may get a surprise winner in 2027 but Ngogoyo on the other hand is still very strong and has the advantage of incumbency. You cannot rule him out,” said Kiniiya.
    The political commentator also predicts that if Fred Matiang’i accepts to be the Jubilee’s party flag bearer in 2027, the Jubilee’s party candidate for the Kajiado North parliamentary seat will also benefit from the Abagusii votes.
