Some residents of Ngong Town are concerned over the deteriorating state of the newly built Ngong bus park. The World bank funded project is estimated to have cost Ksh 86,941,875. They requested the facility to be repaired as soon as possible.

Kisamis Town Facing Serious Water Problems
Hellen Parsitau, a mother of four, walks for an hour and half each way from Eluai village to fetch the free water. She used to buy water for Ksh5 per gallon in nearby school but they no longer sells water. She further said “there are other vendors in the area but I cannot afford Ksh30 per gallon” Residents of Kisamis Town and the surrounding areas are facing serious water problems. Revival Gospel Church has been supplying water to the town until a few months ago when the water supply was stopped due to what residents claim to be unpaid electricity bills. The church borehole was funded by Dr Gilbert Smith, of the Apostolic Revival Center – Miami USA. It was commissioned on 12th September 2008 by the late Prof. George Saitoti who was then Kajiado member of parliament. As a result, the price of water has hiked from Ksh10 per 20ltrs Gallon to between Ksh30 and Ksh50. A sales person at Namelok (Private) water point, told our reporter water is delivered to them using a truck, which increases the price.

Some people claimed indeed the dog was thrown as a sabotage strategy by a water vendor, in order to influence residents to buy water. There is no fence around the borehole, and the only obstacle to prevent someone planning to harm the community is a piece of metal and a rock. The only community water project in the area which was funded by international donors ceased operation years back due to what some residents claim was mismanagement, internal wrangles, vandalism and local politics.
There is a free borehole next to Kashanga River, but it doesn’t have enough water to satisfy everyone. People travel as far as an hour and half to fetch water there. Construction sites in the area are also taking advantage of the free water. A drinking area infrastructure next to the Kashanga well which was built during the colonial period purposely for rhinos. Nowadays it’s used by cattle. In comparison, a gallon of water in Kerarapon and Gichagi in Ngong cost Ksh2. That means the amount a resident of Kisamis Town spends to buy one gallon of water, residents of Gichagi and Ngong is over 15 times

Distress Call Reporting a Crashed Plane in Kibiku Forest was False.
Ngong Fire and Rescue service together with Nairobi City Council Emergency Team and Ngong Police led by area OCPD George Sedah yesterday afternoon (21st February 2018) drove To Kibiku Forest, then to Kahara area and back to Kibiku Forest again in a desperate search of a plane which had allegedly crashed. Both Ngong and Nairobi City Council rescue personnel confirmed they had received a distress call around midday.
The area Chief Richard Kariuki claimed Kiambu fire and rescue service dispatched two fire response vehicles all the way from Kiambu town and from Limuru town. Lack of good access roads hindered the search with most of the rescue vehicles unable to go beyond Kibiku centre (Plots). Our reporter and a few ‘bodaboda’ riders joined the search and were able to go deep into Kibiku and Thogoto forest after noticing smoke rising from a section of Thogoto forest. The smoke was as a result of a forest fire that had started at around 9am yesterday morning. There were approximately 30 men and women fighting the fire with twigs. Mr James Maina Muriuki who is the station manager at Thogoto forest said approximately 37 acres were affected by the fire whose cause was still unknown by 6 pm yesterday.
The area chief, Richard Kariuki claimed Kiambu fire and rescue service dispatched two fire response vehicles all the way from Kiambu town and from Limuru town. Some of the community volunteers who assisted in fighting the fire claimed the fire vehicles left as soon as they ran out of water and did not return even though the fire was still spreading. Thogoto forest which is in Kiambu County borders Kibiku Forest and Lenana Forest.
Some of the volunteers who assisted in putting out the fire requested the forest management to be equipped properly in order to deal with such emergencies. The nearest store where fire fighting tools are kept is in Muguga forest station.
The search for the alleged crashed plane fortunately turned out to be a false alarm.

“New 800 Million Shillings Ngong Market in 12 Months” Says CS Alvin Kimani
Kajiado County Youth and Sports Minister Alvin Kimani together with Ngong MCA Robert “sungura” Muoria held a meeting yesterday evening 19th February 2018 at around 6pm with Ngong youth, majority of them being football players. The meeting which was held at the Ngong MCA’S Office was called to discuss the way forward in regard to the relocation of the Ngong market traders from the current location to the stadium. The youth were concerned the relocation will affect sports in Ngong especially football, rugby and volleyball teams. The following key points were made during the meeting:

The World Bank had given the following ultimatums:• The 800million allocated for the Ngong Market in 2010 must be used by February 2018. • The land where the market traders will be moved temporarily must have a title deed. CS Kimani claimed the traders cannot be relocated to parking bays near the market or the road reserves because there do not have title deeds. He further claimed the land next to the TNA Office has 7 title deeds and over 5 court injunctions and therefore the traders cannot be relocated there.
CS Kimani further said:
• A disturbance allowance will be allocated to the stadium based teams out of the 61million shillings allocated by the World Bank to move the traders. He did not specify the actual amount of the disturbance allowance.
• A fence will be built to separate the temporary market and the pitch.
• The new pitch will move approximately 200mtrs from its current location.
• The World Bank will build permanent changing rooms, toilet facilities and other social amenities to serve the new pitch.
• The World Bank will fund a local league to take place at the new pitch.
• The new pitch will be of higher standard than the current one.
• The World Bank has committed in writing that the new market, will be complete within one year i.e May 2018 – May 2019.
• The new market will accommodate 2400 traders.
• There will be public participation during demarcation.
Ngong MCA Robert “Sungura Muoria said:
• Ngong youth should own the market project which will
create future jobs for some of them.
• Security Lights will be put up at the new pitch.
• The new pitch will be fenced.
• He will work with the youth to ensure they get priority in employment.Njuguna “Pandy” who plays for Black Burners FC requested if the money allocated for the new pitch can be put towards completing the stalled Ngong stadium. In response, CS Kimani said the stalled stadium is a project of the County Government and he has no authority to use the World Bank funds towards any other project. He further said the new pitch, toilet facilities and changing rooms will be completed before the new market project kick starts.
Eric Njuguna requested if one or two youth could be included in the World Bank funded project committee to represent the interests of the youth. CS Kimani in response said the World Bank usually has its own managers and committees.
There were concerns, grass will take longer than two months to grow in the new pitch as per relocation period. -
Rotary Clubs Hold Fun Day for Children Living with Disability
Rotary clubs of Nairobi, Nyeri, Machakos, Karatina and Thika today held a fun day for children with mental and physical disability at the Jamuhuri show grounds Nairobi. Sylvia Moraa Mochabo representing the rotary club of Muthaiga and one of the co-coordinators of the event, requested community members to take it upon themselves to do whatever they can to improve the lives of those living with disability.
Sylvia further said “one doesn’t have to give money, you can take a disabled child out for a walk or for lunch. She also advised parents who have disabled children to accept the disability.as a starting point in finding a solution.
There was transport for the children, food and entertainment through out the day.

Kerarapon Dumped Household Waste
The waste most likely came from a well off household judging by the brand names on some of the illegally dumped waste. Our reporter came across household waste dumped in a private land at Kerarapon last week on Wednesday. The waste most likely came from a well off household judging by the brand names on some of the waste.
Some rogue business owners especially bars, take advantage of desperate individuals such as drug addicts, mentally sick and street boys by paying them only Ksh20 to dispose their waste carelessly causing harm to the environment.

Oloolua CDF Bursary Committe Election Postponed
Oloolua CDF bursary committee election was postponed until Thursday 7th February 2018 at Oloolua chiefs office. Mr Suiyanka and Miss Sophia Katampoi representing Kajiado North CDF office came to the decision following consultation with those who were present. The 9 men and 17 women who were present agreed that, if the elections were to be held today, credibility issues would arise due to the small number of people present.
Oloolua residents were requested to turn up in large numbers on Thursday to elect those who will represent them for the next 5 years. Failure to turn up could result to the wrong people being installed as committee members. Those who wishes to be elected as members of the committee should turn up. -
